What is my art?

In my quest to find my art, I have experimented with many mediums. I worked for years in the building and construction trades and have also done a fair amount of landscaping, design and build.

I love the creation process, from sketchpad to mockups. I have a ton of enthusiasm for figuring out the unknown. Once I can see the final product in my mind I have to be very focused and insistent to be certain the physical project makes it to completion. Once I can visualize it in its entirety and feel that I have solved the unknowns… I am ready to move on to the next. That is where the creativity lies for me.

Prepping some stone for a water feature! Yes, I do almost everything in my chacos.

Landscaping

This was a project I really had no business taking on but… like I said, I love the unknown. From concept to design, build and finish work. This was technically my first try at any of it. The project took just under 6 mo. and consisted of over 900 tons of materials installed. We installed over 200 ton of natural stone boulders, 1400 90lb concrete retaining blocks, countless truckloads of aggregates, trex decking, pergolas, outdoor wood burning fireplace, gas fireplace, 100 ft stream with 15’ of waterfall. Low voltage landscape lighting, wirelessly controlled irrigations systems and 38 yds of concrete flatwork. Not bad for a first try!

I started by painting small 2” squares and little rectangles… 5 or 6 of them but Im not drawn to small art. So its time to go big! I built this canvas out of reclaimed wood and an old canvas wall tent that was now out of commission. I made a LOT of canvases out of that tent.

This was my first attempt at oil on canvas. I love it.
